Third game, third success: The triumph of FC Schalke in the Europa League continues. Koenblau also won 1: 0 in FK Krasnodar, who had also been undefeated.
In the Bundesliga, Schalke 04 are still not on their way, but the club is still in the Europa League. The third game of the group phase ended Königsblau as the winner. At FK Krasnodar in Russia, Schalke won 1: 0 by an early goal of the Ukrainian Evgen Konopljanka.
Coach Markus Weinzierl not only had to miss the seriously injured striker Breel Embolo, who might be out for the entire season. Also the Quartet Leon Goretzka, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, Sead Kolasinac and Nabil Bentaleb did not even start the mission because of various bruises. So the coach tasted instead with Franco Di Santo and Jungnationalspieler Max Meyer in the offensive. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, placed for years, sat again on the substitute bank.
The Schalke team, however, was very active from the outset, and had their chances fast and rewarded early with the 1: 0 lead. Konopljanka took the kick from the right hand side, whistled past a free kick, and it went right into the corner. Already before Meyer had left a big chance to the 1: 0 omitted.
The Russians, like the Schalkeers so far without loss in the group, were impressed and played driving, pressureless and forward little effective. Schalke, on the other hand, had a lot of grip on the game and had little problems to get the lead in the half-time break.
The picture changed in the second half only insignificant. The Russians were superimposed on the field, tried to build up pressure, but they were still on the well-positioned Gelsenkirchen defense or tied the decisive pass in front of the penalty area. The Schalker cover around Benedikt Höwedes was actually in each scene on the hat. So it became more and more a game without highlights, which rippled the final whistle.
There have already been much more complicated games for the Schalke players this season. The next game on Sunday (5.30 pm) in the league against Mainz could already belong again.
